Continue ReadingThe St. Francis Borgia program has enjoyed a long and rich tradition of having top-flight 3-point shooters. The latest in that long line of snipers is 2016 guard Luke DeLine.
The 6’3″ DeLine has connected on 54 3-pointers and is shooting 44 percent from long distance in leading the Knights to an 18-6 record as the regular season comes to an end.
Although DeLine is an excellent knock-down shooter, his offensive game is much more than making 3-pointers. He is very good at getting to the basket on the drive and finishing, plus he gets to the free throw line quite a bit. DeLine is currently averaging 15.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.0 steals for the game.
“I believe I have a balanced offensive game because I can shoot the three well, but my main strength is driving to the basket,” DeLine said. “Also, I am a good free throw shooter and I think I rebound well for being a guard.”
DeLine has attracted recruiting interest from several smaller schools in the region. He has been getting strong interest from NAIA power Columbia College (Mo), Benedictine and Division III schools Fontbonne and Wabash. He has also drawn some interest from Division II programs Maryville, Rockhurst and Southern Indiana.
DeLine’s post-season goals are simple. He wants to take the Knights to the Final Four of the Class 4 state tournament. The quest begins next week when the Knights look for their third consecutive district championship.
“I think that we have a solid shot of making it to Columbia this year,” he said. “We have won our district two years in a row and made it to the quarterfinals my sophomore year, but we’ve never made it to state. If we play as a team and if everyone plays their part, I feel that we have a good shot of making it to state.”
