An athletic 6-foot-2 guard, Kamgain is a three-year varsity player at Center and is having his best season to date, leading the Yellowjackets in scoring at 16.8 points per game.
Center head coach Benny Moore said Kamgain and senior forward Robert Gillum have emerged as leaders for a young team and have helped the squad put together a strong start to the season.
“These are our veteran players, they are three-year varsity players and they are supposed to provide leadership, No. 1, and they are our Nos. 1-2 leading scorers and that is what they have to do night-in and night-out for us to be successful, is score the basketball and lead the team,” Center head coach Benny Moore said.
Kamgain said he is an attack-first guard that can finish at the rim and also find open teammates for buckets. However, he said he knows leadership is one of his most important qualities.
“Me being a junior that has been playing varsity since my freshman year, I like to bring leadership, experience and an outside created for my team.”
Moore said Kamgain also has the ability to step up and knock down open looks, which opens things up for his teammates.
“Franck is a high-energy player and when he is hitting shots, that helps us out,” Moore said. “A lot of teams zone us and he is one of our better shooters. When he has his jumper going, that helps us out a lot.
“He has done a good job for us.”
Kamgain spent last summer playing for Team KC and says the experience helped his game grow and prepared him for taking on a bigger role for Center.
“It was a wonderful experience as we traveled a lot and got good exposure,” he said. “I’m working on improving my defense, becoming more of a lockdown defender and also getting more comfortable shooting off the dribble.”
“Robert has really improved the past three years,” Moore said. “He’s a strong player, and he can play finesse or power. He has a nice jump shot and he is our spark plug. We go as he goes. When Robert is playing really well, then we play really well.”
