A year ago, Davis was a part of a deep and talented Kickapoo team that went 24-5, averaging 5.6 points while shooting 61 percent from the field. This year, Kickapoo is 23-2 with its only two losses coming at the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions. Davis is second on the team in scoring at 13.2 points per game and is shooting 57 percent from the field and 44 percent from the 3-point line and 83 percent from the free throw line.
Although he does not yet hold any offers, Davis has drawn interest from Missouri State, IUPUI, Drake and SIU-Edwardsville.
“It is just a small list, but that is how I like it, actually,” Davis said. “I definitely want to commit before season starts next year. I want to sign in the fall … just to get it over with and enjoy my senior year, and get a little better along the way.
“I have had some academic (college) visits, though. I have taken visits to KU and Arkansas for academics and engineering.”
Davis played his summer ball last season for MoKan Elite and said the experience helped him take his game to another level.
“It is a one-of-a-kind experience,” he said. “They preach hard work. Getting on the floor, dirty work, things like that. It is something I can bring (to Kickapoo). If we can raise out level, then we can come out and compete with the best.”
Davis said one of the most memorable moments of his high school career thus far has been competing in the Tournament of Champions.
“Most memorable high school moment thus far: It is definitely playing in the Tournament of Champions this year,” Davis said. “That was something, since I play at such a high level in summer ball, it was like a flashback playing (with MoKan Elite).
“I just get chills thinking about it. Playing against Sierra Canyon, Christ the King, and even Bolivar … those big teams like that and the opportunity to go out and compete against them and be in a position to compare yourself and the level you are at.”
