A year later, and the recruitment has only gotten heavier for those guys. Some of the top guys like Fort Wayne South’s Austin Boucher, are on a lot of radars. As we make that transition into AAU this spring, Austin will try and turn some of that interest into possible offers.
Earlier this season, Boucher made the visit to go see one of his college suitors, Xavier. He was down for their match against Seton Hall where Xavier won 84-76. They made an impact on the visit as they made it a point to talk with him after the game and show their level of interest.
“I like how Xavier plays and hearing about how and why they play the way they do,” Boucher said of the Musketeers. “I also like the amount of time they spend with me and my family after the games.”
Xavier is one of many teams that have reached out earlier on. It is a big list that includes instate teams like Purdue, Indiana, Notre Dame, Ball State, and others as well as some top out of state teams like Michigan, Stanford, and Virginia. The reason he has draw so much interest is his projection as a possible point guard. The 6’2 guard has pretty good handles and has shown the ability to break a press. He’s also very adept on the scoring end of things too. So, even if he has to move off the ball he shouldn’t been too bad of a prospect there either.
“I have definitely gotten better at my ball handling and getting to the rim,” Boucher said of where he needs to tweak things in his game. “This year I am also starting to be able to rise up and throw it down on defenders. I’d say my game is probably more complete one than it was last year.”
He’s going to have to try and remain as a point guard option as well as cleaning up his efficiency. He’s very talented scoring the ball but can be a little free with his shot selection. With that said, he is among the best scorers in the state for the class of 2018 with 461 total points this season.
Before he plays this summer with Spiece Indy Heat, he and his Fort Wayne South team will take on Jay County in the first round of Sectionals next week. They finished up the regular season with a 15-7 record.
