Alec Burton
6’5 – SF – 2018
Burton was a much bigger contributor in this game than the one earlier in the year I saw. He’s not going to wow you with his athleticism but he was very effective in the post. He’s got good size, already at 6’5, and he can finish through contact and mobile enough in the paint to get a bit creative. Well built frame where agility will be a bigger question than his strength will be in a couple years. Good lower level big man to watch in 2018.
Ryan Cloncs
6’3 – SG – 2016
Cloncs was a ton more active in the game at the Marion Classic earlier in the year but that is because he didn’t have to put the team on his back to win the game. With that said, Ryan did well picking his spots. He’s a fairly smart basketball player and he was impactful while not overplaying his hand. That is an issue for a lot at this age. Did more on the drive game this time around. Danville got out in transition a ton early and that was the part that sparked Cloncs early.
Jake Davis
6’6 – C – 2016
Davis is a nice compliment to a guard heavy lineup as he loves to play straight down on the block. Jake has quite a bit of strength and can do well against taller forwards. At 6’6, he isn’t going to be a guy that relies a ton of finishing over guys but rather through them. Tends to finish with both hands at the rim on a jump stop. Not super deceptive with his finish, just strong.
Tri-West:
Peyton Hendershot
6’5 – SF – 2017
Hendershot and Watson got off to slow starts and struggled against the press from Danville causing them to get down a lot early in the game. But, as it wore on, Peyton was the guy keeping them close. He does pretty well knowing when to take over a game. He’s a great athlete and really strong, now with a couple offers to play DI football. Would probably get plenty of DI looks for basketball as well. Even though he struggled against the press, he’s a pretty good with the ball in his hands. Can bring it up the floor most times and easily get to the rim.
Tyler Watson
6’0 – PG – 2018
Watson looks to be on a pretty good path to development. Last year he was the backup to Trevor Waite in terms of scoring the ball but he was the guy they asked to run the point and handle the plays. This season he is their scoring guard. He’s looked upon to be a bigger scoring presence and he has. Shot the ball pretty well in this one and is really adept at using ball screens when given to get to the rim. In both years he has shown success. If he can continue on this path, he could find himself into the conversation for some DII/DI looks. Has the potential.
Matt Wilson
6’3 – SF – 2017
Have seem Matt Wilson play three times this year and each time he has brought something different to the table. First it was defense. Then it was driving and scoring. This game it was shooting. He went 3/3 from behind the arc to start the game and had 11 points early to keep Tri-West in the game. Really good do-it-all wing player. He really needs some more strength but he can add that and give you a nice look. Similar style to that of Mt. Vernon’s Michael Thompson with less athleticism and more shooting skill.
