We are going to have a multi-part series including Stock Risers, Under The Radar, Standouts, New Faces, and Guys To Watch. We get going with a look at New Faces. Here are the list of guys who impressed enough to get on our radar so far this season, continuing with the shooting guards.
Top Names
Josh Jefferson
6’1 SG 2016 New Albany
Jefferson looks like he could end up being a steal for someone this season. The New Albany guard looked great at the shootout at Southport. He’s got a lot of upside as a pure scorer. Shot it well and has the perfect body to be a two-guard at the next level. Can score decently well at all three levels. Would be a guy to get some eyes on this season.
Damani McEntire
6’2 SG 2018 Decatur Central
I really like what McEntire could become. The high-end football recruit has translated his athletic ability to the basketball court. He shows flashes of his offensive ability but defense could be his calling card. Long and athletic and already strong as an ox. He’s got a knack for positioning on the perimeter and how to stay in front of his man. Give him some solid skill development in the next year and he could really blossom.
Cooper Bybee
6’1 SG 2017 Edgewood
There are always talented prospects that come out of the SW Indiana area that go unnoticed more often than they should. Bybee could be that next guy. He’s a great scoring guard with size and a talented jump shot. Cooper looks to be at the non-DI level but because of his scoring ability he could fit into almost any system. One guy to really watch this winter.
Eric Moenkhaus
6’1 SG 2018 Greenwood
The first time I watched him he missed six or so three pointers in a row but like most confident shooters do he kept going and made some big ones at the end against New Castle. Eric is the definition of a shooting guard. A little size and a lot of confidence. He’s got a clean shot that looks repeatable and effective. Always good to have some top end shooters on your list.
Jonah Jackson
6’3 SG 2017 Merrillville
Not sure what the end product of Jonah Jackson will look like but it will be pretty good. Tall wing with tons of athleticism and a great outside shot. Seemed like he settles into a role and that right now is a shooter for Merrillville. I think there is more to him. He’s good in the open floor and his touch from behind the arc leads you to believe he could score off the bounce too. Interested to see him this summer.
Billie Webster III
6’4 SG 2017 Seton Catholic
Webster was the Robin if Desmond Bane is Batman. He started off the game against Richmond hitting some tough outside jumpers. He’s got the look of an outstanding prospect, long and rangy with handles and touch on his jumper. Needs a little strength on his skinny frame but that doesn’t seem like a long term problem. Really intriguing guy to watch.
Cameron Simmons
6’3 SG 2017 Traders Point Christian
Traders Point turns out a few good prospects every year and Simmons is one to watch. The 6’3 wing has a nice frame with strength and an ability to get to the rim. He’s got a lot of skill and some room to grow up in the next year that could make him a legit prospect. Solid guard option for a non-DI program.
Braxton Poore
6’2 SG 2016 Terre Haute North
Poore is a guy that has seemed to fly under the radar to this point. The talented two-guard out of Terre Haute has a lot of scoring ability. Likes to get in the lane and once there he can finish pretty well. Doesn’t need a ton of shots to get points and that makes him effective. Ball handling is a little bit of an unknown but if he can help on the ball that raises his value even more.
