We are going to have a multi-part series including Stock Risers, Under The Radar, Standouts, New Faces, and Guys To Watch. We get going with a look at New Faces. Here are the list of guys who impressed enough to get on our radar so far this season, continuing with the centers.
Top Names
Jacob Weber
6’5 C 2016 Chesterton
Weber was one of the better big men I’ve seen this year that I didn’t know much about. He was very productive in the game against Columbus East grabbing rebound and finishing well in the post. He’s strong and has a great body with room to add a bit more strength and showed some athleticism. His mobility helps him out on the defensive end with post defense. His bonus was his ability to stretch the floor really well shooting from beyond the three.
Dane Holmes
6’6 C 2016 Twin Lakes
I really like what I saw out of Holmes this winter. He’s very productive and with the amount of strength he has it was really easy to see why teams are struggling to defend him. Dane’s best offense is right at the rim because he can finish through contact and very efficiently. Holmes could really help a DIII/NAIA program needing legit size inside. Not going to stretch the floor much but gives you a legit low post presence.
Carter Taylor
6’7 PF 2017 Frankfort
I got to see Taylor early this year and he could be a name that fits very similar to Holmes in a year. He’s got a little bit bigger of a body and while he has less strength, he has a better ability to play on the perimeter and away from the basket than Holmes. Taylor can hit some 15′ and deeper jumpers and take guys off the bounce in the midrange. Still has to get more effective but it is a clear tool for him. Good upside as a lower level college prospect.
John Sakeleros
6’5 PF 2016 Crown Point
John has proven to be a good commodity in the 2016 class with size always being hard to find at any level. He’s got a lot of finishing ability around the rim and while not overly skilled in the post, Sakeleros can move quickly and effectively. Finishes well with both hands and gives you a functional big man on both ends of the floor with a little bit of length.
Alex Galle
6’6 PF 2016 Columbus East
Galle isn’t a well known commodity but for a team looking for a little size and some mobility who can finish in the paint. Galle is pretty mobile for his size and can step away from the rim. Doesn’t go out seeking a ton of shots but can take the few he gets and add in some points off of rebounds and fouls to help make him a key contributor.
