Zach Gunn and Hamilton Southeastern
Not that Muncie Central and Lake Central were going to be super huge wins but the way the HSE was able to comeback and beat Muncie Central and win a grinded out game against LC shows that they might be ready to get back on track after only 8 wins last year. Gunn looks to be much more of a playmaker and has put up huge numbers to start the season. Tough test tonight against another good team in Avon.
Seton Catholic’s Desmond Bane Putting Up Big Numbers
Bane has been one of the biggest names this offseason with his play in the fall league and to start the season. He’s a potential triple-double in some games this year and is Seton’s best weapon by far. However, there are only about four really good opponents on the schedule this season. I’m interested to see how he does against some more high-profile teams.
Vincennes Lincoln Gets Two Big Wins
Head coach Jeff Hein has his team starting off really good this season despite the talent that left his roster at the end of last year. Ethan Claycomb has been the star and helped to get them wins over Northview and Evansville Mater Dei. Their next and maybe best test of the season comes tonight against Evansville Reitz on the road.
Three Down
Southport With Tough Loss To Merrillville
In Indiana, one loss doesn’t hurt all that much with everyone able to make the postseason. However, I’m not sure many expected Southport to lose to Merrillville in the second game of the season. They also didn’t expect to have a very close, nailbiter against Jeffersonville in the first game. If it was just one of the two, this wouldn’t be a big deal but both happening back-to-back to start the year is interesting to say the least. Could be nothing but worth noting.
Rushville’s Loss To Shelbyville
Now, Shelbyville isn’t a bad team and should have a pretty good record but this is Rushville’s year. Batesville is down, Greensburg is down. Rushville has two standout seniors and some pieces to fill in around that can make a deep run in the tournament. If I was picking a potential loss for Rushville entering the season, it wouldn’t have been until January.
Crown Point’s Loss To Lafayette Jeff
After seeing Jeff this week, it is easier to see how Crown Point could lose this game but it still is a bad loss for a team that was predicted to do very well. With only one game to go off of you can’t really know how a team is going to be but that game was a bit important because their schedule is pretty hard for a while now. They have only four more games before Christmas and they are against Penn, Warren Central, Munster, and Indianapolis Pike. That isn’t easy. If CP is as good as some thought, they could win a few of these but they could easily slip and end up 0-5 heading into Christmas break.
