Al Young 6’1″ (Cape Girardeau Central ___ 2016): Tremendous athlete who excels in the open court. Strong, physical guard who could get to the basket whenever he wanted to. Shoots the passing lanes well for steals and transition opportunities. A big-time football prospect, which is probably where he future lies at the next level.
Jeffery Porter 5’10” (Scott County Central ___ 2016): Younger brother of NBA player Otto Porter, Jr. Shares big brother’s championship pedigree. Potent scoring threat, but picks his spots when to take over games. Has his go to move of the cross-over dribble to the mid-range jumper. Automatic. Strong handles, tough and loves the moment. Columbia College was there to see him on this day.
Zach Beel 6’7″ (Woodland ___ 2016):An excellent prospect who dominated in the first round victory over Oran before leaving with ankle injury. Had 18 points, 14 rebounds and four dunks before the injury. Active athlete who can score inside or step out and make perimeter shots. Also displayed some good passing skills. Low majors ought to take a look.
Jacob Smith 6’2″ (Jackson ___ 2016): Thick guard who has nice handles and the ability to get to the basket. The leader of a young Jackson team in a transition year. Cannot be knocked off of his dribble because of his physical strength. He’s headed to Lyon College (ARK).
Nathan Bolin 6’3″ (Oak Ridge ___ 2016): Versatile guard hidden away at Class 1 Oak Ridge. Did a nice job of handling the pressure of Charleston High’s guards in their first-round loss to the Blue Jays. Handled the ball well and knocked down a couple of 3-pointers. They tell me baseball will probably be his future ticket.
Cole Schlief 5’10” (Woodland ___ 2016): Aggressive little guard who scored 24 points in his team’s first-round victory over Oran. Pushed the ball in transition and can make open perimeter shots to take the pressure off of Woodland’s talented big men.
Michael McCormick 6’6″ (Woodland ___ 2017): Forms an imposing front line with 6’7″ teammate Zach Beel. Got in early foul trouble against Oran, but came back strong in the second half. Really stepped up when Beel went down. Plays with a high motor. Aggressive rebounder who will challenge shots in the paint.
Preston Wuebker 6’0″ (Advance ___ 2017): Smooth combo guard who leads one of the state’s top Class 1 teams. Wuebker did not look for his shot as much on this day, but has very good dribble-drive moves to the basket. If a defender backs up, he can knock down the 3-pointer. Aggressive defender on the Hornets’ pressure defense.
Blake Bauwens 5’1″” (Notre Dame ___ 2017): One of the most impressive 3-point shooters in the tournament. Bauwens knocked down three from long distance in Notre Dame’s victory over Chaffee.
Dylan Keller 5’11” (Scott City ___ 2017): Another knock-down shooter who scored 21 points in a first-round victory over Kelly. Keller made five 3-pointers, including three from well beyond the collegiate 3-point line. Drives well enough to keep defenders from just keying on his perimeter shooting.
Dawson Mayo 6’4″ (Advance ___ 2017): Physical post player who doesn’t mind throwing his weight around inside. Had a double-double in the Hornets’ first-round victory. An effective offensive rebounder who uses his strength to get good position.
Deantrell Beard 6’1″ (Scott County Central ___ 2017): Undersized combo forward with a big body and a good skill set. Uses body to post up and get buckets, plus he handles the ball well. Can be a match-up problem.
