The GAC-Suburban Shootout featured some solid prospects that are flying under the radar in the area.
PF Wyatt Yess 6’8” (Parkway West ___ 2017): Yess has already received offers from schools such as Missouri and Saint Louis University with more on the way. He is one of the top shooting bigs in the state. Has good fundamentals as a ball handler and passer. Did a nice job of using his size and length to block and alter shots in the lane.
PG Darius Rice 6’1” (Jennings ___ 2016): Excellent point guard prospect who does a good job of making his teammates better, but will go and get buckets when it’s time to call his own number. Has developed into a solid floor leader over the course of his career. Division 2 programs should definitely be taking a look.
SG Kaleb Overall 6’4” (Wentzville Liberty ___ 2018): Versatile youngster who has the size and skill-set to play all three perimeter positions. Handles the ball well and can get to the basket and finish. Above average athlete who can also pass the ball. Should develop into a Division I prospect.
PG Hasaan Decarolis 5’10” (St. Charles West ___ 2016): Displayed excellent quickness and slick handles. Has the ability to get in the lane on a regular basis. Struggled with finishing in the lane against a big Parkway West team, but started to knock down some 3-pointers in the second half. A consistent mid-range jumper would make him more effective on the drive. A good small college prospect.
PF Kaleb Strauss 6’7” (Warrenton ___ 2018): Young frontcourt prospect who is very effective in the lane with left hand finishes and jump hooks. Will also step out and shoot a 3-pointer. Should become even better as he adds strength.
SG Alex Cleary 6’2” (Eureka ___ 2017): Improved shooting guard who has grown a couple of inches and put on about 10 pounds since his sophomore year. Very smooth with the catch and shoot. Hit four 3-pointers and scored 21 points in a victory over Warrenton.
SF Austin Schwertdt 6’7” (Fort Zumwalt North ___ 2016): Versatile small forward who scored 22 points against a very athletic Jennings team. Long, active body who can get to the basket and knock down a 3-pointer. A good NAIA/D2 prospect.
SF Rajea Johnson 6’3” (Jennings ___ 2016): Athletic forward who is always around the ball making plays. An effective offensive rebounder who also gets a lot of transition buckets by running the court and outhustling bigger defenders.
PF Nick Lathrop 6’6” (Parkway West ___ 2016): A very solid post player who does a nice job of playing off of heralded teammate Wyatt Yess. Does a good job of finishing in the post and getting good rebounding position. Small college prospect.
PG Tayari Goodwin 5’5” (Parkway North ___ 2019): Freshman point guard who displayed a lot of savvy in the 56-55 victory over Liberty. Has excellent quickness and not afraid of the big moment for a player so young. Scored seven points in the fourth quarter on a 3-pointer and a couple of floaters
