Marion Takes Down Lawrence North
In the biggest shock of the night, Marion was able to beat Lawrence North, 79-70. Marion is so hot and cold at times that it is hard to predict what they will do at any point in time but not many saw this. LN is one of the best teams in the state and a potential State Championship contender. However, they are also very young. Marion is not. Tim Leavell’s 28 points was the difference-maker on paper. The junior shooter had himself a night. LN took an early loss similar to the one Southport took from Merrillville. Doesn’t change the perception of the team, not yet anyway.
Lawrence Central Looks The Part Against Carmel
If you asked me before the game who would win, I would have went Lawrence Central. But, I wouldn’t have guess by 24 points. Carmel is very different than a year ago and their defense is still one of their better assets but it still needs some work. Kyle Guy and company stay on track and get a win to go to 2-0. Next up, a vengeful Lawrence North team.
Rushville Goes Down, Again
Don’t get me wrong, Connersville is a pretty good team. Thought they would be a surprise candidate this year but the bigger surprise is Rushville’s terrible start. I just wrote about them the other day with a bad loss to Shelbyville. Now, they lose to Connersville. The start for Rushville isn’t going to end their season but the team that I thought could be special, might just be average. They get New Palestine tonight. If any team in the state needs a win, it is Rushville.
Fishers Escapes Noblesville
Fishers was my darkhorse pick for Sectional Champions in 8. This is a veteran group who has been together quite a while. They have size, athleticism, shooters, and a ton of guard options. They can win a lot of games this year. Noblesville is a solid team and Fishers found a way to win a close one. Today, however, is their biggest test yet. NorthWood is no joke. If Fishers can get past them, it would go a long way.
Evansville North Almost Beats Castle
This is a start of a long stretch for Evansville North. They are under a new head coach and are still looking to get a winning season since 2011. They picked up two good wins over Princeton and Mt. Carmel and almost beat a very good Castle team. A 2-point loss is nothing to be ashamed of. But, their schedule gets tougher and you will get to see what they are made of. At Evansville Reitz, Bosse at home, and Gibson Southern. Go two out of three and you have something going.
