Continue ReadingMajor Kur is the top rated prospect in South Dakota’s senior class. Why? Because at his size of 6-foot-10 with extreme length and good agility for a big, Majok is a rare talent as it’s hard to find size that can move and play with some skill.
Across the nation there are 347 division one college basketball teams and every one of them needs at least two centers. With such a small population of athletes standing 6-foot-9 or taller, you can understand why so many programs are checking on Majok Kur regularly.
Kur is originally from the Sudan and he is now four months into his third year at Mitchell Christian High School where he plays for Head Coach Dennis Martin.
“Majok is doing well on and off the court,” said Coach Martin. “His over all play has improved a good deal over his junior season. Having played in two summer and fall leagues has allowed him to adapt to the physical ness of the game.
“His post offense and passing ability are two of his strengths. He has a nice perimeter game also as he can step out and shoot the three ball.”
The Golden Eagles went 7-14 a year ago but they are off to a nice start so far.
“We are 2-0 so far in season,” Miller explained. “Majok has averaged 24.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.0 assists so far. As a team we need to improve our overall defense, especially our man-to-man rotations.
“Offensively we need to learn how to be patient and run our offense allowing our inside play to develop.”
As we said before, Majok will be a future college basketball player. It’s just a question of where. Right now programs from all over are interestd.
“Several colleges have inquired about Majok,” said Miller. “From division one programs to NAIA as well as Junior college schools.
“Northern State, Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, U of Sioux Falls as well as a few Big Ten Schools have requested info on Majok’s future.
“I should clarify that those colleges have expressed interest in Majok. He is currently unsigned.”
The next steps for Majok Kur are yet unknown as far as the next level of basketball but as far as his progress at Mitchell Christian everything is on track and moving along very well.
