On Saturday, Dobbs had a big performance, scoring 21 points to lead the Hawks to a 62-61 win over host Waynesville at the Route 66 Shootout. Dobbs said he brings a physical game to the court.
“My game is under control,” he said.”I can go into the post on smaller defenders and take bigger defenders to the perimeter. I bring physical leadership to my team by playing hard and displaying an example.”
Through the early stages of the 2015-16 season, Dobbs is averaging a team-high 8.4 rebounds and is second on the team in scoring at 18.4 points per game and is shooting an impressive 74 percent from the field.
“Domonique Dobbs is just a high-motor kid— very blue collar,” Hazelwood Central head coach Josh Martin said. “He makes plays, rebounds … is tough. He had another double-double this evening; he had done that a lot this year.”
Hobbs has been a hit on the grassroots circuit as well, playing for St. Louis-based Team Ramey this past summer. He previously played with EYBL St. Louis Eagles before making the change.
“I played with the St. Louis Eagles for two years, and played with Team Ramey towards the end of the last AAU season,” Dobbs said. “Playing with the Eagles taught me how to play hard every possession because the competition was brutal. Not only the competition was brutal, but competition within the team was brutal as well.
“Playing with Team Ramey taught me how to step up and be a leader, since l was playing with players that were less experienced than the players on the Eagles.”
Hobbs said NCAA Division I Southeast Missouri State as well as Columbia College and Harris-Stowe are currently showing the most interest as his recruiting heats up this winter.
