Over the past summer he has been working on his ball handling and increased his range from the mid range out to the 3 point line and says playing with the Eagles has helped raise his profile.
“Playing with the St Louis Eagles has helped me in many different ways,” Boyd said. “It’s made me realize how many good athletes are out there that are just as good and better than I am. And it’s made me push myself because there’s so many other players who want to the same place that I want to go to , and I have to some how make a way for a college coach pick me over another player.”
Boyd said he has patterned his game after former Kentucky big man Anthony Davis.
“He always had this dream about playing in the the NBA and had this one huge growth spurt that also helped him out,” Boyd said. “And his hard work got him there, and him just wanting to be the best.”
Through the first six games of the season, Boyd has helped Miller Career Academy open the season 4-2. The Phoenix opened the season 4-0 before dropping its last two. Although he hasn’t put up big scoring numbers just yet (averaging 5.6 per game), Boyd has been big on the boards averaging 6.4 rebounds per game and is second on the squad with nine blocked shots.
Boyd said he currently doesn’t hold any offers, but has had a slew of schools show interest, be it sending letters or talking with his high school coach. The schools paying the most attention are Missouri State, Illinois State, Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois, Southeast Missouri State, and Wichita State.
