He is currently drawing interest from a host of colleges, including several Missouri Valley schools. The staff of Prep Hoops Missouri caught up with Bennett after a standout performance at Missouri State Elite Camp in Springfield over the summer.
A 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard, Bennett averaged 10.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists last season as a sophomore. He shot 45 percent from the field and made 16 3’s in 25 games.
Q:Describe your game to people who haven’t seen you play. What is your position and things that you do well?
A: I’m a taller point guard who loves to get everyone involved and get my own buckets when I need to. I’m a very athletic guard and a leader, and I work hard both on offense and defense.
Q:What area’s of your game are you working on?
A: I’m really working on my shooting and becoming a lead guard. Once I can get my shot and handles to an elite level I feel like I will be able to do big things.
Q: Who has influenced your game the most? What players do you look up to and try to pattern your game after?
A:The person who has influenced my game the most is my father. He has taught me everything I know and has showed me how to be the best player I can be. As far as players that I look up to and try to paten my game after it would have to be Michael Carter-Williams of the Milwaukee Bucks. He is a taller point guard and I love he controls the offense and the team.
Q: How has playing for the Pumas helped your game grow?
A: The Pumas have helped me take my game to another level. Before I played more of three man, but Coach Mason made me play more of a combo guard running the two and the one which has helped my recruitment a ton.
Q: What offers do you have and what visits do you have scheduled?
A:I have no offers yet, but the schools showing major interest as of right now are UNI, Missouri State, Wichita State, Southeast Missouri State, Tulsa, University of Pennsylvania, Portland University, Drake, Santa Clara, Lehigh, and the University of Omaha. I plan on taking an unofficial visit to Southeast Missouri State sometime this month.
Q: Talk about this past weekend at Missouri State and the coaches and campus.
A: Missouri State was an amazing campus. The gym, coaches, and all the facilities were great. I really like the coaching staff and all the players there, they are doing great things down there. They were very welcoming and inviting. I think they will make me an offer sometime soon.
