Continue ReadingSLUH junior combo guard Brandon McKissic has seen his recruiting interest pick up after a productive month of July with the St. Louis Eagles 16U squad. The 6’2″ McKissic made some unofficial visits and also picked up a couple of offers along the way.
“The recruiting has been going well after July,” McKissic said. “I got two offers from Missouri State and UMKC. I also took an unofficial visit to Indiana State.”
McKissic was one of the St. Louis area’s most improved players during his sophomore year in 2015 when he led the Junior Billikens to a fourth-place finish in the Class 5 state tournament. It was SLUH’s first Final Four appearance in 33 years. McKissic emerged as a dynamic lead guard with a penchant for making clutch shots. He is at his best when attacking the basket off the dribble, but has steadily improved his perimeter shooting to keep defenders honest. McKissic is physically strong and tough to knock off his dribble when he gets a full head of steam to the basket.
“I really want to get my jump shot more consistent,” McKissic said. “I also want to make sure my ball handling stays tight. I’ve also become more of a leader for my team.”
McKissic has led the Jr. Billikens to a 5-2 start against a challenging schedule. He is currently averaging 17 points, three rebounds and nearly five assists a game. He scored 21 points against nationally-ranked Chaminade in a Metro Catholic Conference showdown last week.
After getting a taste of the Final Four last season with a young team, McKissic’s goal for this season is simple; to make it back.
“We want to go back to the Final Four,” he said. “It was a shocking experience to make it last year because we were so young. It just gives me the hunger to want to get back to state again.”
