MILLER CAREER ACADEMY – EVALUATIONS
Prospects Height Position Class
Corey Boyd 6’8” PF Jr.
The evening started slow for Boyd as he struggled from the field, but he was a huge part of Career Academy’s rally as he started to finish around the rim in the fourth quarter and overtime periods. At 6’8” and about 240, Boyd has a big body, but he is comfortable handling the ball on the perimeter and leading the fast break. He also passed the ball well out of double teams to open teammates. When the motor is going, Boyd is tough to handle.
Javonta Perkins 6’6” SF Jr.
The versatile Perkins is Career Academy’s best all-around player. He spends most of his time on the perimeter where he is a good ball handler and excellent jump shooter. He hit a big 3-pointer late in regulation to give the Phoenix its first lead. He is long and athletic and has a nice skill set. He also did a good job guarding Riverview’s 6’7” standout Zeke Moore in the second half.
Nicholas Walker 6’0” SG Sr.
A standout on the Phoenix’ football team in the fall, Walker brings that kind of toughness to the basketball court. He is the team’s most tenacious defender and he can take the ball to the basket with plenty of gusto. He makes things happen.
DeAndre Woods 5’8” PG Sr.
Woods is a set it up point guard with plenty of speed and quickness. Did not look to shoot much, but came up with a big 3-pointer in the fourth quarter. Like a good point guard, he nailed some big free throws in the overtime to seal the victory.
Kyle Jones 6’4” PF Sr.
A very solid veteran forward who did a nice job playing off teammates Boyd and Perkins on the front line. He came through in the fourth quarter and overtime with a couple of drives to the basket which resulted in baskets when his team needed them.
Mike Clark 5’10” PG Soph.
Nifty little point guard who played mostly in the junior varsity game, but also made an impact in the varsity game in limited minutes. Showed some nice penetrating moves and some good court vision. The point guard of the future.
RIVERVIEW GARDENS – EVALUATIONS
PROSPECTS HEIGHT POSITION CLASS
Zeke Moore 6’7” SG Sr.
The Saint Louis U. bound guard came out on fire with a pair of long 3-pointers, a mid-range jumper and a thunderous dunk in transition. Moore has ideal size, length and the skill set to be a standout at the next level. He can shoot it with great range. Would like to see him get to the basket a little more. Getting physically stronger will be the key to his future success.
K’Quan Carter 6’7” PF Sr.
A massive power forward at about 260 pounds, Carter is a force with his physical size and strength. Carter set some bone-crunching screens that got teammates free for wide open jumpers. Has a nice jump hook over the left shoulder move in the post. Had a good battle with the 6’8” Boyd of Career Academy in the post all evening.
Kyle Younge 5’8” PG Soph.
Comes from a family of point guards who played at Riverview, including his father and uncle. A tough youngster who guards with great zeal and can get in the lane on offense. Likes to finish in the lane with the running floater. Can also knock down his free throws.
Malik Barnett 6’3” SG Sr.
Barnett scored 12 points, all on long 3-pointers on the evening. Barnett is a transfer from McKinley, where he averaged more than 20 points a game as the team’s main option. You could tell he is still adjusting to playing on a team with several offensive weapons as he waited his turn. When he got his opportunities, he showed why is he is such a talented offensive player. He brings good size to the shooting guard position.
