Continue ReadingUntil Tuesday night, the state of Indiana was still waiting on it’s first commitment in the class of 2017. That changed when Butler picked up a commitment from Cloverdale’s Cooper Neese.
The 6’4 shooter is one of the top players in the state and the best shooter that class has. Through five games this season, Neese is averaging 28 points per game on 45% shooting from the field and 42% shooting from three.
Butler tends to like their in-state shooters. Kellen Dunham, Sean McDermott, and not Cooper Neese.
“God I love it,” Neese said about his commitment to Butler. “I can learn so much from just being able to be a Bulldog. And, as hard as they play makes me want to even more.”
Neese took a visit to the Indianapolis-based campus on Monday for a game, a place he had already been many times. On Tuesday, Butler was ready to pull the trigger and offer. Neese was ready too.
“About five seconds,” Cooper said of how long it took from offer to commitment. “Didn’t want to be rude and interrupt my coach.”
Neese had quite a few offers already in the bag. Ball State, Indiana State, and Evansville had all offered with Belmont, UNC-Greensboro, Lipscomb, and Vermont all showing interest.
“I was really waiting on Butler but Indiana State and Ball State were on my lists as well,” Neese said.
This is not only the first commitment for the class of 2017 in Indiana but the first for Butler in 2017.
