Chamberlain: The Cubs won 15 games last season including six straight before they were knocked out of the playoffs by Cheyenne-Eagle Butte…They return everybody after graduating zero seniors. They are a young team that was built around a sophomore class as only three juniors played a year ago…Now junior Seth Friesz is a top player in his class and will produce strong numbers again. He and Tiegen Priebe will lead. Seth put up 19 points and 4.5 rebounds a game last year and was the only sophomore on the Class A All State Team. Adrian Farmer was another strong piece and he is a senior under the rim plus they have senior Parker Evans, and juniors Rich Marone and Joden Matthews back who saw time…They also have a pair of sophomore guards in Carson Powers and Riggs Priebe they like…
Cheyenne-Eagle Butte: The Braves have some of their top pieces back from a 16-7 team (although they lose scorer Creighton LeBeau)…Five-foot-10 senior guard Grant Kohlus is coming off an 18 point per game season. Kolhus will shoot about 165 field goals a game and few in the state are at the foul line as much as Kohlus…Six-foot-3 forward Brexton Traversie also returns. The junior scored 12.4 points per game and most were active buckets at the front of the rim…Senior Brendan Walking Elk is a hard working senior role player who will likely be a third double figure scoring option after putting up 7.5 a year ago…6-foot-4 front court players Sam LeBeau (senior) and Shawn Valenzuela return. LeBeau played in every varsity game a year ago while Valenzuela was a part timer…They had a seven game winning streak going to end the season before Winner (now in Region 7) knocked them out of the playoffs with a one point overtime win…
Crow Creek: The Chieftains won 8 games last season but dropped seven of their last eight which resulted in an 8-13 season mark…Much of last year’s rotation is returning as only two seniors graduated…Sophomore Demontei Medicine Crow received some varsity experience as a freshman last year…Dale Big Eagle is a six foot guard that was often a top scorer for this team…Junior 6-foot-3 big Robert Johnson also had a strong season for this team. Same can be said for Devon Drapeau, another senior…
McLaughlin: The Midgets are coming off an 8-15 season that saw them win three straight at the end before Faith ended their season…Coach Hank Taken Alive played four freshman last season who are included in the seven guys back from their rotation…Not a big team with only two guys six feet and over returning…Losing Payton Tiokasin will be tough as he put up some huge numbers in many games last winter…Mark Black Cloud is the top returning senior while sophomores Kyle Martin and Dorian White will play big roles last season…
Miller: Lost their top five scorers to graduation. Six-foot-2 forward Jason Manning is the top returning player from a year ago. He scored three points a contest. Junior guard Cory Breland and sophomore Henry Mullaney had small roles a year ago and will step into bigger positions this season…The Rustlers caught fire late in the season winning seven straight before Winner ended things in the playoffs…They will get much smaller as all of their height graduated…
Mobridge-Pollock: Finished a game over .500 last year despite losing last three games…The Tigers return one of the biggest guys in the region which is 6-foot-5 Jordan Bachmeier who is now a senior although he wasn’t a huge piece of the rotation a year ago….The Tigers only have two guys under six feet which in this region makes them bigger than most…Noah Chase is a senior and the top scorer back while Gary Wollman, a senior, and Dante’ Fischer are back in the backcourt…
Stanley County: The Buffaloes won five games last season and at times where hammered by the best but against most they were a competitive team…They only had two seniors and one was a role player so there is a lot coming back…New juniors earned a lot of experience a year ago…Top scorer Brevin Klemann, a senior, is back along with key producers Colton Dragest (a senior and the biggest guy on the team at 6-foot-3) and junior Damon Hoftiezer….
