Recruiting Report: Aidan Vanderloo (2019)

<h2>November 11, 2015</h2><p>Though Iowa’s 2019s are just beginning to be evaluated, it’s by word of mouth alone that Sioux City East freshman Aidan Vanderloo has already become one of the top names to watch out for in the class.</p> <p>And though most of the current freshman would have no recruiting news to share just yet, Vanderloo used his offseason to expose himself on the grassroots and camp circuits, generating some high-level interest -- albeit vague -- in the process.</p> <p>“I’ve heard a little bit from all levels so far from NAIA to D2, D1, and D3,” said the top-2019 prospect.</p> <p>The 6-foot-1 guard did mention some high level Division I schools had reached out to him, but did not mention which in particular -- he said he did not want to exclude anybody. He did mention that schools interested are from the Big Ten and ACC conferences.</p> <p>“Really just getting a lot of exposure this summer was when my recruitment really started, it was after the CP3 camp my name really got out there,” said Vanderloo. “I heard from an ACC school right after the camp, and I also heard from a Big Ten school right after the camp, so it was really good.”</p> <p>The talented freshman spent most of his offseason playing two grade levels up, with the 16U Martin Brothers.</p> <p>“This summer playing with older guys I really learned how to take care of the ball and really value possessions,” he said. “The pace was really different so I got used to playing really fast and just taking care of the ball, not turning it over, and valued possessions.”</p> <p>Vanderloo added: “What I think I do best is shooting 3s, and my style of play is I like to get out going, push the ball, and go fast.”</p> <p>“Mostly what I need to get better at right now is playing defense. There’s some possessions right now where I catch myself sleeping out there.”</p> <p>As he heads into his freshman season with the Black Raiders, he will be likely be seeing plenty of playing time with one of the state’s premier programs, and one of 4A’s best teams.</p> <p>“I’ll just come in and do whatever they need,” said Vanderloo. “If they need to me to come in and get some shots up and connect for some 3s, I will. Really, just whatever they need, I’ll be ready.”</p>
