With plenty of Division II and Division III interest, it may not be long before some scholarship offers come rolling in for the talented senior.
“I have been getting a lot of Division II letters and emails from a lot schools. St. Joseph's (IN) sent me some stuff, University of Chicago, Ohio Dominican has sent me a lot of letters and has been in contact a lot,” said Yates.
He also mentioned University of Mary (ND), Albion (MI), Heidelberg, Grand Valley State (MI), Saginaw Valley State (MI), and Lake Superior State (MI).
Yates mentioned two programs that he feels are pursuing him the most right now.
“I would say Heidelberg, and also probably Ohio-Dominican are the programs that may offer soon,” said Yates.
While spending his spring and summer with All-Ohio, Yates says he his shot-making ability and his defense is where he saw the most improvement.
“This offseason I would say I had a lot of fun just being able to travel different places for 17U. The coach really pushed me at the beginning of the season and corrected me on a lot of stuff I needed to improve on,” said the 6-foot-2 guard.
“Things I improved on are being able to create my own shot, and the ability to knock-down free-throws and jump-shots at a higher rate. And I think that my defense definitely got a lot better and improved more.”
As he heads into his senior season with the Golden Lions, Yates says it will be his turn to lead the team.
“We only had one captain last year, but there will be multiple seniors this year and I’m one of them, and I’m one of the voices my teammates will be hearing from constantly,” said Yates.
