The 6-foot-3 wing has a much longer wing span than his listed height and when you consider all the twitter love he has been getting, this guy is expected to be on the verge of big things.
Teammate Wade Baker on Deyondre in open floor: “He makes it look so easy. You and I would have to use roller blades or something to do that.”
Minot Daily News Reporter Mark Jones: “Hard to believe Deyondre is only a sophomore. He makes everything look so easy.”
Royal McGregor of the Odessa American: “Simpson finished the state tournament with 22 blocks, that’s an average of 1.8 per quarter.”
PHD: “Great length, long strides, used quick step 1-dribble attack for a two.”
PHD: “Simpson stands 6-foot-3 but the wingspan is much bigger than that. Moves up the floor very well.”
The final two comments were after PHD watched Simpson play with one of the ECI 16U teams in the spring. Simpson definitely jumped on college lists showing his potential.
“It was a good experience and seeing all of the good competition,” Deyondre said of playing with ECI.
“But we had 11 guys on our squad and I think I didn't get to show what I can do on the court. But it was great learning names of my teammates from different parts of North Dakota.”
In terms of high school basketball, Simpson is fairly certain good things are ahead.
“Long story short you'll see us back at State. We added a post so we got more height in the lineup.
“Our biggest competition is going to be ORCS, but we know we got a big target on our backs so we're going to work hard and live up to the hype.”
The expectations for both Parshall and Simpson have been set. This winter will tell a lot about what the future holds.
