After one of the better freshman campaigns in the state last season, Central Decatur point guard Carter Booth found himself ranked 42nd in the latest PHI prospect rankings.
The 5-foot-11 sophomore averaged 5.8 points and a team high 2.8 assists while coming off the bench for the 20-3 Cardinals.
His successful freshman season coupled with his exposure playing with Iowa’s up-and-coming grassroots program Kingdom Hoops, was enough to capture the attention of one area Division I program.
“Western Illinois sent me a letter a couple of weeks ago, and that’s about it right now,” said Boothe.
“I definitely think about it all the time; what my future's going to be, where I want to go, what I want to do.”
With plenty of time left to generate recruitment, Boothe looks to be a mainstay with Kingdom Hoops, and competed with the 15U Elite team this offseason.
“Kingdom Hoops is definitely a step-up from the level I play, it’s a lot more fast-paced, and everyone could do everything pretty much. I thought I handled the ball alright, and I distributed well,” he said.
“I though I did well playing at the fast-pace and being able to not get tired as much, and handle the ball and know the situation that the coaches taught me.”
As he continues to mature as a point guard, Boothe says he ultimately wants to be a guy who handles himself stoically on the court.
“Having composure (is where I want to improve),” he said. “When we’re down by 15 in the third quarter, I want people to look at me and not be able to tell what the score is. I want to look the same whether we're down by 15 or up by 15.”
