Des Moines Christian combo-guard Ben Juhl was just one of the many now juniors who starred with Kingdom Hoops’ 16U Elite squad this offseason.
Many of the players on that ultra-successful team have seen their recruitment soar, Juhl is no exception.
“One D1 school, South Dakota, has sent me a couple letters. And then a lot of D2; Cedarville, California-San Diego, Delta State. And then Central has sent me a lot of letters, also Luther, Grand View, and Upper Iowa,” said the 6-foot 2017.
“I’d say Cedarville and Delta State have shown the most interest so far.”
While playing with Kingdom Hoops, Juhl says he even surprised himself at well he performed at times.
“I thought what I did well was contributing right away. And I just kept being more aggressive, and it was kind of surprising how much I was scoring when we were winning those big games,” he said. “I also got a lot stronger, but my main improvements were my confidence and being more aggressive.”
Juhl says right now he’d consider himself more a shooting guard, but this upcoming season with the Lions, he’ll be playing more point guard.
“I’d say my strength is getting to the basket and my pull-up jumper. Coach (John) Lamb he loves my pull-up jumper, he says I can pretty much do it on anybody that’s guarding me, he likes it that I elevate pretty high. I like to score and get other people involved, and that’s about it,” said Juhl.
“I’d have to say finishing on the right side as good as I do on the left, and just being able to go easily to both sides is something I need to improve on.”
As he gets set for his junior season, Juhl says he and senior Keaton Van Soelen will lead the team together.
“I’d say I have a much bigger leadership role, as well as scoring,” said Juhl. “Me and Keaton we’re both working, and we’re both going to be scoring a lot, and really leading on and off the court for the team.”
