In this second installment of notes we take a look at four 2016 prospects and one 2017 prospect we didn't have ranked and how they did on this Saturday to command attention. As one of the last events left before high school begins, it was a chance for athletes to showcase their events in two games with an all star game following.
Nathan Bailey 6’5 2016 Guard / Forward LW Higgins
Bailey has always been a high level shooter and he proved just how well he shoots it this weekend. With a long, albeit slim frame, he moves well and has the length to shoot over defenders as a wing player. Defensively he could use some polishing but Higgins has a good one to lean on after Melvin Frazier has moved on to Tulane.
Jarod Carter 6’9 2016 Center Bonnabel
The big man recently moved from California and will provide yet another big body for Bonnabel to use in that massive district. He has a wide frame at nearly 300 pounds but great footwork and straight line speed for his size. He finishes with moves around the basketball and can play above the rim. One he loses weight, he'll be an extremely tough match-up.
Mason Aucoin 6’4 2016 Guard / Forward Hahnville
Mason has a 4.0 GPA with a 27 on the ACT already and should be on any D2 to NAIA radar as a player who can shoot it and is improving on the wing. He's got range beyond the three point line and moves to play off of it. Aucoin will finish above the rim at times and can defend well enough at the three with the ability to play the two as well.
Tyquan Marshall 6’5 2017 Power Forward St. Martinville
Tyquan is an explosive athlete who is built solid throughout. He plays in and around the basket for the most part now but can step to the mid range and knock down shots. As he expands his perimeter skills there is a good chance he can turn into a three man. Marshall already rebounds at a high level.
DeVante James 6’4 2016 Forward Bonnabel
James is an athlete that runs the floor and finishes well above the rim in both a half court set and transition. He can step out and hit the occasional three and shoots it well from mid range. He'll need to develop his ball handling skills to transition to the perimeter but is athletic enough to defend either forward position already.
