Player: Galen Alexander, Lafayette Christian, 6'6 F
Previous Season: (at Breaux Bridge) 9-16, LCA 30-4 State Runner Ups
Why Will He Win? The move to Lafayette Christian from Breaux Bridge means he will have a shot to star on a state title team. LCA already has numerous seniors and underclassmen who would likely be the 1A favorites to win the title this year. Now Galen has the chance to put up big numbers for one of the state's top teams. That should get him in front of the eyes needed to have a shot. This 2017 nationally ranked prospect has a real chance to be Mr. Basketball if LCA wins the title in 1A.
Why Won't He Win? Like most of these underclassmen who will appear on the list, they will have their work cut out to get voters to put them above high major signee's in the class of 2016. There is also a plethora of talent on LCA's roster which could limit the numbers he puts up. Any struggles for him or the team on the court could hinder his chances to win it. If Galen Alexander becomes the 1A state title game MVP and has the season to back it up, he could overcome those odds.
