They may be young, but these floor generals have shown that they can lead a team to victory despite their age. These five point guards have shown maturity beyond their years, and have stood out amongst a talented group in the class of 2018. Here's the top five point guards for the sophomore class.
Rasir Bolton; 6’1; Millwood
He was impressive despite some injuries his freshman season, and he really put on a show with Team Loaded in the July live periods. Bolton is every thing you could ask for out of a young point guard prospect. He has good size, burst and handle, and he has an understanding of the game that’s well beyond his age.
His composure on the court really stands out, as Bolton never gets too high or too low after a play. He’s a competitor on both ends of the floor, and his ability to make everyone around him better is what makes him a true point guard. He holds early offers from Virginia Tech, Richmond, ECU, Hampton and ODU.
Donovann Toatley; 5’7; St. Stephens St. Agnes
Don’t let the size fool you, because he will go at and get the best of anyone that is put in front of him. Another pure point guard, Toatley may have the tightest and flashiest handle of any guard in the state, regardless of class. He’s a terrific passer that can fit it through the smallest windows, and he’s able to break down defenders and see the help coming to set his teammates up.
Toatley understands how to finish in the lane with his size, and can also hit it from deep off the bounce. His ability to create for himself and others in iso situations, along with his competitive nature, makes him the perfect player to lead a team. He holds and early offer from Richmond.
Jonathan Norfleet; 6’1; Salem (VB)
He’s got good size and good burst, and he’s got a swagger about him that he knows he can flat out play. Norfleet has drawn comparisons to former Sundevil and Maryland Terp John Gilchrist, not just because of their school, but because of his ability to take over games when necessary. He’s a tough leader that can score it at all three levels and puts his team in opportunities to win.
Norfleet’s killer instinct is impressive for a player his age, and he’s a go-to guy down the stretch in big games. He loves big situations and steps his game up against the best competition. He holds an early offer from St. Francis (PA).
Kameron Harris; 6’0; Amelia Academy
He’s an athletic lead guard with a lot of potential that’s ready to take his game to the next level. Harris has a good frame and is a mismatch nightmare with his mix of athleticism and creativity in the lane. His jump shot has improved a lot over the summer, and he has the ability to score it in bunches.
Defensively, Harris is a lock down perimeter guy who can step over in help to block a shot or take a charge. His athletic ability and instincts allows him to shoot gaps for easy steals, and his finishing ability in transition is top notch. He’s just scratching the surface and should improve as time goes along.
Joe Foley; 6’2; Woodberry Forest
He’s a crafty and intelligent guard that has great size and surprising athleticism. Foley is a tough point guard who understands the game and makes great decisions on the break. He’s a tough defender that moves his feet well and has active hands cause deflections. Foley can also shoot it from deep and creates well off the bounce. He’s a vocal leader that finds a way to help his team win.
