C Barret Benson (Hinsdale South)
Benson is clearly the top low post prospect in the class of 2016. The Northwestern commit has legit size along with a plus skill level on the block. When he is assertive Benson is hard to stop with his combination of size, strength, and footwork. The Hinsdale South center has improved his mid-range game being able to knock down a 15 foot jumper. He has gotten in much better shape over the last year which has improved his athleticism and mobility.
PF Nick Rakocevic (St. Josephs)
After a stellar junior campaign where he played a major role in capturing a state championship it wasn’t the greatest spring and summer for Rakocevic as he struggled to find consistent production. Despite this he still possesses high major skill and size. The mobile four man runs the floor extremely well and can score on the block with his back to the basket.
PF Brandon Johnson (TF South)
Johnson knows exactly who he is and does his job game in and game out. The 6’7” four man is a bouncy post that excels at hitting the offensive glass for second chance points. At least half if not more of his points come in this fashion. Flashes skill potential, runs the floor well, and can block shots. Mid-major prospect!
PF Lorenzo Edwards (Lake Forest)
Edwards is a skilled and big bodied lefty that has a great knack for knowing how to score on the block. He has a soft touch around the hoop and shoots a high percentage from the field. Coming off a strong July with Meanstreets.
PF Terrell Phipps (Simeon)
The newest Simeon post has a world of potential. The long and athletic 6’8” big runs the floor, can hit an open 15 foot jumper, high points rebounds, and is a presence defensively blocking shots. Considerable upside and needs to be looked at by mid-major and low-major schools.
C Loudon Vollbrecht (Geneva)
Big bodied 6’9” center that had breakout spring and summer going from football prospect to coveted low-major target and the state’s #2 center. He is a load down low scoring in the block with his combination of a physicality and soft touch.
PF Noah McCarty (Sterling Newman)
McCarty is a tough and gritty four man that did all the dirty work inside for Quad City Elite on the circuit. He has solid back to the basket moves as he showed in limited touches and fights on the boards. Good passer. Nice early pick up for Northern Illinois.
PF Elyjah Goss (Plainfield East)
Skilled and athletic four man that is improving his toughness on interior. Can space the floor with jump shot and defends well on the perimeter. Low-major D1 programs like his combination of tools, physical gifts, and potential. He has committed to IUPUI.
