Last year James took over the Concordia-St. Paul program, located in the heart of the Twin Cities, and proceeded to set a school record for conference wins in his first year (an 11 win turnaround). To continue future progress he spent a lot of time tracking Sioux Falls Washington guard Sam Siganos and over the weekend received his commitment.
When PHD first broke the news over the weekend our first though was “that’s a huge get for the Golden Bears, I thought he would say in Sioux Falls”. Sam had offers from USF and Augustana (there may have been a couple more from NSIC schools) but has decided to move three and a half hours into Minnesota for his college years.
Siganos will join a Golden Bear squad that had a fantastic 2015 recruiting effort. They grabbed a D1 level juco talent in Diallo Powell, a top 20 talent in Iowa in Steen Kragt, a top 30 talent in Minnesota in Bryndan Matthews, and Brandon McRoy who played on one of the best teams in the nation last year in Chicago.
Siganos has made his college choice and now his focus is on his senior year of high school basketball. Washington feels they let one get away in the state final last year but Sam returns with Carter Keller and Ty Smith on the wing, ultra strong Matt Farniok up front, seniors Robert Speeks and Gezehagne ready to step into bigger roles, junior Jack Tally is back and has the potential for a big year, plus the sophomore and junior class could fill out the front court role minutes with Zach Heins, Isaac Goemann, and/or Mason Thompson.
For now, know this. Siganos has made his college decision and the high potential guard talent will make Concordia-St Paul better. Sam is very intelligent decision maker, quite skilled, has a good frame, and he’s an underrated playmaker. As far as PHD is concerned Joey James and the CSP Bears got a steal.
