Player: Lamar Peters, Landry-Walker, 6'0 Point Guard
Previous Season: 26-9 record, 4A State Champions, 4A most outstanding player
Why Will He Win? Lamar Peters was the best player in 4A last season and with the move up to 5A, he could garner that award again. He is a high volume scorer who proved this summer he can facilitate just as well. With numerous big games on the schedule for Landry-Walker, he'll have the opportunity to showcase just how good he is. Navigate district and win a 5A state title (and 3rd in a row) and he will likely bring the award home.
Why Won't He Win? Landry-Walker is also home to Cam Lard and Lamont Berzat, two guys who will surely command touches for them. Lard is one of the better senior players in the state with Peters and that could split votes. The other big deterrent is going to be the Sophomore phenom at Scotlandville who will be looking for back to back 5A state title's and title game MVP's. If this nationally ranked point guard in Lamar Peters plays his A game consistently, he can win the award.
