Tyler Johnson. The football standout sure looks like a basketball talent who could get a scholarship there too. His combo of strength and athletic ability are too much for most talents even on the Adidas circuit to consistently deal with…When you see him run the floor you get excited for something special because he flies and vaults. Makes you think about him throwing down as a college hooper and running the sideline on whatever side of the ball to make a play…In the open floor late in the game Tyler outran these Georgia athletes to the rim laying the ball of the glass a good five inches over the hands of his opponents….Took a charge at the 3:20 mark beating his man to the spot and then taking contact to the floor. Great lateral step advantage gained…
Jalen Mobley. His strength was too much for most guards to try and defend against. Guys try and reach and are met with upper body muscle and often the results are bad. Jalen made the other team pay because they tried to reach regularly and he made foul shots because of it…Huge play made when Mobley made his first foul shot, missed the second but grabbed his board and led his team to another score. Moments later he made two more foul shots…
Matthew Hurt. Under rated shot blocker and it’s because of three things: 1) timing, 2) length, 3) defensive IQ as Mike is usually in the right position to make plays….Makes something out of nothing better than most. When he missed a shot, he taps it out. When he losses the ball Michael dives on the floor to retrieve and then his team scores. Always works hard after a mistake which is unfortunately something that is becoming rare…Hit a huge corner trey with four minutes to go giving his team the lead…Scored a tap-in with 2:30 to go that broke a tie…Ran the floor ahead of the pack and finished in transition giving him seven crucial points in a minute’s time…Michael drives in the halfcourt set to finish and that is nine points in the last four minutes to finish the game off…Ran off 12 seconds and then made a final foul shot for ten points in last four minutes…
Luke Harris. His activity on the offensive glass is better than I’ve seen and if he gets the ball in the middle of the lane with space he will touch it in…Bricked a trey but had the fire in him to run the other way and swat a transition lay-up 40 feet the other direction. Huge block…
Trenton Kruger. Trenton Krueger is still trying to figure out what he did on pretty much all the fouls call on him. So are the rest of us Trenton…
Ade Lamu. One of the best follow-up guys in the business, too quick and bouncy to make regular box-out hits on him as the Stackhouse kids from Georgia quickly found out…At times you will see others go for a board and then just stop as Ade flies by to collect. Strong handed-fast off is feet rebounds…
D1 MN 16s win their pool
D1 Minnesota 16U won their game 49-48 after Matthew Hurt responded from a tough game to make an NBA trey, a couple free throws, and a kickout triple in the corner in the final couple of minutes to give his team the victory, and the pool championship at 3-0.
D1 Minnesota received another solid effort from Jack Sorenson who controlled the ball and hit six jumpers including four pull-ups that were softly touched but dirty to those trying to defend. Jack Hutchison hit a couple jumpers and had a key assist to Hurt, Tywhon Pickford has the biggest assist on Hurt’s game winner, and Goanar Mar scored a team high 13 points and led the way defensively .
