Sims took a huge leap this summer and made strides at both the grassroots and high school level. With his grassroots program, Sims played a featured role as the big who was responsible for rebounding and rim running on a team with a ton of perimeter shooting. For defending Columbus regional champion Delaware Hayes, Sims went from a player who received spot minutes to a key rotation piece. I’ve always liked the frame of Sims and he flashed some ability prior to this summer, it seems things are clicking for him now and he’ll have a chance to play a big part for one of the team teams in central Ohio.

The semifinal battle between Midwest Gilliland and Midwest Sayre/Maurer was probably the best I’ve ever seen Sims play. Looking aggressive in the paint by catching contested passes and finishing, rim running for layups and getting second chance points, Sims was active early and a big reason why his team remained competitive throughout the early stages of the second half. Delaware Hayes lost a couple starting members of their front-court which opens the door for a guy like Sims to step up next winter. I’ve been really encouraged by his progress this spring and if he continues to play hard could carve out a nice role on a Pacers squad that will look to defend their central region title in 2025.

The last prospect featured in the article, Sims played hard and scored efficiently in the paint on Sunday. With good length and physical tools, Sims used his size advantage to get offensive rebounds and score in the paint. Delaware Hayes returns a lot from their core but the two seniors they graduate had good size and physicality, if Sims develops this summer, he could slide into a role as a forward for the defending regional champions in Columbus.
