Byrd is a rock solid guard who can slide to the wing in MoCo play as he has good understanding of leverage guarding bigs when his team needs. He’s an excellent communicator, which further allows for him to present as B-CC’s true senior leader and while he’s more than willing to play within the system offensively, he’ll break things off for himself when he knows he has the upper hand. He plays with a strong base that makes it tough for defenders to knock him off balance during drives or quick pull-ups, uses compact mechanics on catch-and-shoots and has the bruiser mentality when scoring around the cup. His game is one that you can see thriving at the DIII level shortly after arriving on campus.

We’ve covered Byrd pretty extensively since getting eyes on him this summer. I’m confident that he’ll be a riser in the future update for a multitude of reasons. The first being that he’s the straw that stirs the drink for what should be a good B-CC team this season. To add, his balanced skillset as a scorer and overall playmaker will further boost his value as will his ability to dial in on the defensive side of the ball. He’s shown elite leadership qualities and communication as the quarterback of the defense when playing along the backline or weak side in help position. His passion and intensity are infectious to those around him and the consistent effort that he provides should warrant a long list of DIII programs vying for his services.

-Our scouts unanimously liked what we saw from Byrd as he enters our rankings within the top-100 as a dynamic off guard/wing prospect that attacks the rim and fills it up from the perimeter. Byrd is especially effective in transition as a locomotive of a guard that plays well through contact and has a nice bag of finishing moves around the basket. With a strong build and quick feet, Byrd can also guard up or down a few positions and should prove his worth as one of the better Montgomery County prospects this season with BCC.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Byrd is one of the best DIII prospects you’ll find in Maryland. Not only do I think he can come in and make an impact from day one, but he’s equipped with valuable leadership intangibles that you see in all-conference type of upperclassmen playing at that level. Byrd averaged 19 points per game as B-CC went 1-1 on Saturday, but his willingness to guard any position on the floor, communicate in effective fashion defensively, and make others around him better on the other end while remaining efficient in his own scoring attack are all reasons why he’ll see his stock improve after this weekend.

-One of the top performers in the showcase that picked up a ton of interest from the attending college coaches with his play. Byrd uses his shoulders well to carve out space for downhill drives or rebounds around the basket. Moves really well for his size, has the skill to drive it 94 feet and make a good decision at the other end. Finished it well with the off hand around the basket both with hooks and left-handed lays. Took the right shots on the perimeter and shot it at a good clip but didn’t settle for jumpers, found opportunities to attack hard closeouts and get downhill.

Tim Byrd is a nice wing that plays a style of basketball easy to plug and place. Tim is a good spot-up shooter and can attack the rim when necessary. Tim is well-built, and you see he’s one of the stronger players on the court. He has good vision and is a good wing to have. BCC went 0-2 this weekend, but Tim caught my eye against Yorktown, where he went for 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.
