Tarun Saroya
About Tarun
Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
The highest-ranked newcomer to the rankings, Saroya has stood out throughout his post-grad year at Erie Prep with his size and offensive versatility. A graduate of Kelowna Secondary in Canada, Saroya plays across the positional spectrum with his ability to initiate offense off the dribble, spot up on the wing, or make plays with his length around the basket. His shooting figures to be his calling card at the next level, with a smooth stroke out to the arc and ability to play out of a wide range of actions. He plays with a clear unselfishness and feel for the game that should bode well for his translation to a scholarship-level role before too long.

A post-grad by way of Canada, we got our first look at Saroya in the early season and were immediately impressed with him as a prospect worthy of being in the upper portion of the rankings. Saroya impresses with his versatile offensive skillset with the blend of size and fluidity to thrive at either forward spot. He possesses a smooth shooting stroke across a variety of actions, along with smooth ball skills and passing ability. With limited recruitment still to this point, he could prove to be a steal for any number of programs up to the low D1 level.

While he wasn’t the leading scorer, Saroya looked to our eyes to be the most intriguing long-term prospect on the Erie Prep roster. A smooth wing forward originally from Canada, he showed an effortlessly fluid shooting stroke while knocking down four 3’s, relocating intelligently to open space and showing comfortable range out beyond the arc. He showed poise and IQ as a decisionmaker both on the perimeter and attacking off the bounce, also offering some secondary ballhandling to help initiate offense in the halfcourt. Saroya’s blend of size, shooting, and overall polish to his skillset make it a bit puzzling why he’s yet to draw any interest of note on the recruiting trail.
