Expert Analysis

It just seems like yesterday I started these kids, and Shawn was one of them for the Barons. Shawn has a good frame and body control to the bucket. He will fend off defenders and get to the foul line. He can play multiple positions on the floor when called upon for the Barons.
Shawn is a stat sheet stuffer at times. He averaged 9.7 ppg, 5.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists last season for the Barons (24-8).

Matthews does a great job of knowing his role and making winning plays. He is a premier catch-and-shoot threat – one you can’t leave in help defense. He also does a good job of creating off the dribble and drives with his head up looking to find an open teammate. Matthews is selfless with his body on defense, drawing charges, fighting for loose balls, and helping on the boards as well.

Shawn has really gotten into the weight room and bulked up some it looks like. He was really looking to get the ball to the basket while overpowering defenders along the way. Shawn was able to finish some mid-range jumpers today with his play. He really played well on both ends of the court with his constant hustle.

Shawn has seemed to grow a little bit since we seen him last during the season with the Barons. Matthews ran with Upward Stars SE Pee Dee 16U on the Grassroots Circuit.
Shawn has good size for a guard and build so far for his age. Matthews averaged 10.2 ppg and 4.4 rebounds last season for the Barons and Head Coach Rip Ripley.
Matthews plays the game with a bit of chip on his shoulder at times. He will look to attack the cup at times or simply pull-up for a jumper. Can the Barons surprise some folks in SCISA Class 4A this coming season?

Matthews is really starting to come into his own at times for the Barons. Shawn plays game very heady at times. He was able to connect on some open looks today while being active in the passing lanes on the defensive end. Shawn already has good size for his age and possibly could still be growing down the road. He already has a quick trigger from the perimeter and seems to have good shooting mechanics.
