Costello ran the show for Metro Boston’s 16u squad, and he did so confidently and comfortably all day. The southpaw has excellent change of speed and change of direction dribble moves, and he does a really good job getting himself balanced and controlled in the paint when the defense collapses on him. His three-point shot is still coming along, but he has solid-looking mechanics and should continue to improve from there as he develops moving forward. Most impressive was Costello’s ability to run the lane in transition and finish with a head of steam. He’s a good athlete, he has a good head on his shoulders in terms of getting his teammates involved, and he’s a tough kid. He should be a key part of BC High’s attack next season.

Costello, a lead guard out of Boston College High School, checks in at #111 overall and #11 among the point guards. Costello is a great mover in the half-court, showing a keen understanding of how to cut off drives and get open without the basketball. These skills will become even more important as defenses key in on him and his ability to knock down shots from behind the perimeter. He’s got a quick release, is always shot ready on the catch, and knows how to step behind screens to get his shot off. On the other end of the floor, he takes pride in being a point of attack defender that doesn’t give up an inch of space to opposing ball-handlers.

Costello, a talented guard out of Boston College High School in Massachusetts, is an active perimeter defender that can really shoot the basketball on the offensive end of the floor. The 6’0″ lefty has a good understanding of angles and does a nice job of making plays in passing lanes and rebounding in space. Offensively, he has deep range on his jumper and the ability to get it off in catch and shoot situations or off the bounce. He continues to improve as a ball-handler and has the ability to get into the paint off the bounce and spray it out to shooters.
