About Sawyer

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I’m a high-energy point guard who likes to push the tempo, encourage my teammates, play aggressive defense, and compete hard every possession. I’m a catch-and-shoot threat and always try to do what’s best for the team.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Tenacious, competitive, and coachable player who puts the team first and encourages my teammates. I play hard, listen to feedback, and keep growing my mindset by learning to reset quickly after mistakes.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’ve developed leadership, teamwork, and a strong work ethic through basketball and school. I lead by encouraging others, being coachable, and working hard for my team. My teachers describe me as respectful, responsible, and the hardest worker in the room. I earned all A’s in both 6th and 7th grade and, as a recent NJHS inductee, I have been increasing my community service.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

One challenge I’ve worked on is moving on from mistakes and staying focused on the next play. I’m very competitive, so that can be hard sometimes. Basketball and learning bass fishing have both taught me patience, strategy, and how to reset and focus on what’s next.

What type of college are you looking for?

I would like to go to a college with strong academics that can help prepare me for my future career, and I’d love the opportunity to keep playing basketball.
