Mayfield is an active undersized big whose size allows him to eat up space underneath. He does a great job of shagging rebounds and always seems to be in the right spots to gather them. Mayfield finished with 11 points in his teams win over Brooklyn College Academy. He is a sneaky good passer and did a nice job connecting with teammates for scoring chances. I would like to see Mayfield finish better in and around contact he left a ton of points on the board. I liked how Mayfield was able to use his in-between game to score when he needed to. He would be a great pickup for a prep school program or a small college.

Mayfield, a senior forward out of Pope Francis Preparatory School, is a terrific athlete that uses his combination of size, motor, and fluidity to dominate games around the rim and in transition. He’s capable of finishing plays above the rim, can role or pop out of ball screens, and catches everything thrown his way. On top of that, he has a nose for the ball on the offensive glass and is capable of attacking defenders in straight line drives from the perimeter. He’s a good shot blocker, can move well laterally, and even makes plays in passing lanes.

Mayfield boasts some really intriguing paint skills and should be one of the more dominant bigs in the entire MIAA this year. The 6-foot-7 forward gets above the rim incredibly quick, so he’s always ready to dunk alley oops or dump down passes. He also has some surprisingly good touch with both hands around the basket. He’s able to finish against bigger forward with his length and hops, but he can also use his strength and toughness to score over smaller wings and guards on switches. Pope Francis will make waves this season and Mayfield will be getting tons of D3 looks as a result.

Mayfield, an athletic forward at Pope Francis, jumps into the rankings at #143 after previously appearing on the Watch List. A high motor forward that can make plays on both ends of the floor, his 6’7″ frame is boosted by his plus wingspan. He moves well in space, does a nice job of rim running in transition, and scores with either hand in the paint. He crashes the offensive glass, sets good screens, and can put the ball on the floor for multiple dribbles in space. On the other end, he guards in the post without fouling and is terrific on the defensive glass.

Mayfield impressed me with his post moves and feel in the paint. No matter how many little guards surrounded him in the lane, he was able to keep the ball high over his shoulders and finish consistently. He fought super hard for offensive rebounds and was a man amongst boys in that regard — his ridiculously long arms certainly help. He also showed some fire when he matched up against an opposing big who was talking lots of smack to him; he raised his intensity and physicality level and showed that he can compete hard. Mayfield should find a D3 fit and be a good rim-running center with some offensive juice.
