MacDonald, a guard out of York in Maine, spent the winter proving to be one of the state’s most skilled scorers. MacDonald ended the season averaging 20.0 points per game, making him one of the top scorers in all of Class B. The 6’2″ guard has good positional size, can operate with or without the ball in his hands, and has the ability to defend at a high level off the ball. He does a nice job of defending within the scheme of a team defense and is consistently in the right spot in rotations. On the other end of the floor, he plays with good pace with the ball in his hands, knocks down shots at a high clip off the ball, and finishes with touch over size in the paint. He ability to consistently make the right play should make him an attractive recruit at the Division III level.

MacDonald, a senior guard out of York High School, has been phenomenal this winter in helping his team get off to a 14-1 start, while averaging over 20 points per game. One of the state’s top combo guards, MacDonald has a college ready frame and impresses with his versatility on the offensive end of the floor. He plays with strength as a driver, does a nice job of finding his scoring within the flow of the offense, and benefits as a scorer from his playmaking ability as a creator. He does a nice job of moving without the basketball, particularly when sliding into open passing windows off of drives and knocking down catch and shoot threes. On top of that, he’s capable of finishing in a variety of ways around the basket, impressing with his willingness to finish through contact.

MacDonald has an old-man’s game, but don’t let his awkwardness fool you. The 6-foot-2 guard/wing is phenomenal in the paint when it comes to using his pivot feet, both hands, and a variety of crafty upfakes — he might look like he’s playing at the YMCA, but he puts the ball in the hoop consistently. He has an awesome pull up jumper and great touch in the lane, and he has good instincts in terms of when to attack downhill and when to swing the ball. Improvements in his three point shot will be massive for his recruitment moving forward. Look for him to be a star at York this season.

MacDonald has a fascinating game. I wrote him off when I first saw him because he has an awkward and sometimes unique-looking way of handling and shooting the ball. But the more you watch, the more you realize he really understands how to play the game and can put the ball in the hoop quite consistently. He has an amazing bag of hook shots with both hands at the hoop, and he has uncanny touch with floaters and jumpers in the paint. He can shoot the ball from three but can also burrow his way into the paint and hit highly contested shots. I think his awkwardness could limit his recruitment, but he should probably find a D3 fit.

MacDonald is a 6’2″ guard out of York. The 2026 prospect is an impressive perimeter scorer that can really shoot the basketball, with deep range. He gets his shot off in catch and shoot situations, using screens to his advantage, and also has the ability to create space with the bounce as a shooter. He’s an instinctive cutter that knows how to finish around the rim and also shows a willingness to move the ball without causing it to stick. He uses his basketball IQ to his advantage defensively, showing an understanding of where to be in the help position and in rotations. His versatility, on both ends of the floor, helps to raise his ceiling as a prospect.
