Expert Analysis
Shane Garcia | Prep Hoops Scout
Sam is the biggest player I saw on Friday. He is listed as a seven-footer and plays like he wants to be big. He posts up incredibly hard and tries to get every single board. He is strong and moves the opposing players out of his way. He knows how to use his body and feel defenders out in the post. He has a great soft touch around the rim. He had multiple putbacks and floaters. It is an impressive skill to have that most other bigs do not have. Moves well and will only continue to get stronger and add size.

In terms of defensive impact, Sam was arguably the best most dominant prospect in the gym across all age divisions at the Chi-Town Tip Off. The 6’10” center is a big time shot blocker and rebounded well throughout the weekend. His best basketball is still long ahead of him.

Precious has a ton of upside as a prospect, and showcased flashes of that potential throughout the weekend for Mac Irvin Fire . With his long wingspan and quickness off the floor, he was looking to dunk pretty much everything around the basket, leaving the rim shaking on multiple occasions. When he sets his mind to it, there wasn’t really anyone who could stop him from getting to the rim, as he has good strength at his size, and wasn’t afraid to bully smaller defenders in the paint. Defensively he has the mobility to slide his feet out on the perimeter when needed, and can recover to make plays around the rim as a shot blocker.

Precious is young in his basketball career and will only get better. Sam is more of a rim runner and rim protector right now but his skill level will improve as he learns the game. As raw as he is, Precious is averaging 5 and 5 for an Eastern team with a lot of long term potential. Keep an eye on the big fella moving forward.

One of the biggest freshman in the state, Sam actually played a majority of both the JV and Varsity games for Eastern. Scoring as many if not more points on varsity, I was impressed with his interior scoring ability of Sam. While he’s a major project right now, he does have a couple skills that already flash. His hands were solid, catching most passes thrown to him. He also finished a majority of layup attempts at the rim. Defensively, he protected the rim with a handful of blocks in both games. Where Sam needs to make strides are with his foot speed defensively and being more confident with the ball in his hands. These things will come with time and I like that he’s getting extra game reps playing at both the JV and varsity level. One of the highest upside prospects in Kentucky, Sam is a name to watch in the 2027 class.

Sam has recently gotten an opportunity to make an impact for Eastern after starting the season at Ballard. Precious is a big body with good hands and high potential. Averaging 4 points and 5 rebounds as a freshman, expectations should be tempered for the big man as he continues learning the game and improving over the course of his career.
