Newman does a good job getting to different spots on the floor off the dribble in the mid-range. He also can find his open teammates with his passing abilities. Newman can play on or off of the basketball. He is a viable option in a multiple guard lineup. He breaks the game down well on the fly.

Pete was close to unstoppable in his first game vs Glenelg. He started off strong, hitting two 3-pointers and two shots in the midrange. He continued into the second quarter by hitting timely threes both off the dribble and catching the ball in stride for an open look. Although he was shooting the lights out this game, his looks came off of efficient point guard play. He didn’t have to work hard for many of his points because he allowed the game to come to him, and took advantage of his mismatches and momentary opportunities to attack. Made passes on time and did not allow the defense to speed up his decisions-making at the 1.

-Newman’s developmental arc has been intriguing to track over his career. Starting first as a pure PG, then adding in consistent 3 point shooting that put him in more of a shooting specialist role, to a versatile senior PG that can do a little bit of everything in an expanded role with his new team. Newman can hit shots off of sidesteps or stepbacks from the top of the key or drill looks from the wings coming off of different types of movement. Can’t wait to see what more he’s added to his game as this offseason winds to a close.

Newman has dramatically increased his productivity on the ball this season with the departure of Malik Mack and Daquan Davis, growing more and more comfortable as a playmaker off the bounce once the hard contests begin flying after a few made 3s. The junior combo guard finished with a well-rounded 19p 2s 1b 1a 1r stat line, shooting 55% from the floor and 60% from 3. While his handle still needs to prove in order to navigate ball screens a bit more efficiently, Newman is rounding out into a much more complete prospect for the Cadets
