Over the weekend Doherty impressed with his versatile, three-level scoring skills. In his 34-point effort Doherty knocked down 4 threes, got out on the fast break for hoops, scored off dribble drives and via crafty off-ball cuts to the hoop. At times Doherty operated as a primary ball handler. In that role he displayed elusive handles that got him to the rim whenever he wanted. Doherty also displayed a high IQ and tremendous poise. He never allowed opposing team’s pressure defense to speed up his game. Plus, Doherty penetrated the paint and then executed kick outs or slipped a dime to a slashing teammate.

Doherty emerged during the state playoffs as a sophomore but cemented himself during his junior year as one of the best players in the district. A smooth-operating southpaw sniper who makes his living from behind the arc, he’s a prolific shooter with an effortless lefty stroke and a keen understanding of how to shake free for clean looks despite heavy defensive attention. He keeps things honest by showing good control on the attack as a scorer off ball screens or driving closeouts. There’s questions about his defensive fit at the next level as more of an undersized off-guard, but Doherty’s dynamic shotmaking ability and overall offensive skillset have scholarship-level coaches justifiably on his trail.

At the Spring Jam Fest,Doherty proved to be a versatile and skilled guard who impressed with his three-level scoring against a talented Middlesex Magic squad. He drained threes, got out on the fast break for hoops, scored off dribble drives and via crafty off-ball cuts to the rim. Doherty’s handles are and underrated asset. His change of pace moves enabled him to score and distribute off the bounce during half-court possessions. Doherty also displayed a high IQ and tremendous poise. He never allowed opposing team’s pressure defense to speed up his game.

Doherty is an elite sniper who leaves his mark on the game from behind the arc. I have seen Doherty score from another zip code at times. He finds ways to come up with steals. Doherty has some ability to play on the ball and find others in the flow off the game. He can also find a way to score in transition. Doherty is tracking as a scholarship prospect.

Doherty (18 ppg.) is one of the top rated 2026 combo guards in the state. This high IQ and crafty backcourt prospect does a fantastic job of balancing his scoring opportunities with getting teammates involved. Recently Doherty took an unofficial visit to Navy.
