Expert Analysis
Scott Hankamp | Prep Hoops Scout
Muhl has lowkey been one of the top additions to a team in the state this season. The Tuskegee University commit has been a perfect fit for Avondale. He has a reputation as a player that can fill it up from well beyond the arc. While he can, he adds much more to this team. Muhl has been that steadying force for his team, making smart passes and smart plays. His ability to work and play off the screen has been impressive.

Muhl is a shooter and scorer at heart, but his influence on the game is there whether he does or not. The defense was so focused on Muhl and not giving him space to shoot from beyond the arc, that it opened up space and lanes around the floor for teammates. Muhl has over 20 offers and opponents know it.

There’s a reason that Muhl so more offers than I have fingers and toes combined. He’s a shooter with deep range and plays really well off a screen. Muhl knows how to read the defense off of it and where to look for a shot or pass.

Muhl has been on a run of offers, the most recent coming from the University of Massachusetts – Boston and Ohio Wesleyan University. He’s got to have over 20 offers as of now. Muhl is a true lead guard that can be the primary ball handler and initiate the offense, but can fill it up from deep and easily put up 20 plus points on any given night.

Max is a pure shooter, the kind of player who can change a game with just a few touches. He’s got a smooth, repeatable stroke and the confidence to let it fly from anywhere on the floor. Whether he’s spotting up in the corner, pulling up in transition, or coming off a screen, Max’s shot always looks clean and under control. Defenders can’t afford to give him an inch of space, because once he’s in rhythm, it’s lights out. His shooting stretches the floor, opens up the offense, and keeps the defense on edge every possession.

Max Muhl was my underrated MVP of the Labor Day Showcase as he came out firing from everywhere beyond the three-point line, connecting on 3-4 in his first scrimmage of the day. He was locked in during skill stations as well, being a willing teammate and spacing the floor as needed for his squad. Muhl came all the way to Tomball from Michigan and definitely blended in and rose above the high-level Texas competition, displaying a great offensive skill set and physical toughness. Max should be a top candidate on college coaches’ radars moving forward for this year!

This one might catch some by surprise, but if it does, really watch him play. If anything 20 isn’t high enough. I’ve seen him take over games in multiple ways. His team needed a bucket, he’d call for the screen and make a play or a shot off of it. Speaking of screens, there are few guards that play as effectively off of them as Muhl.

Muhl is one of the better guards in the state in my opinion and he was named a co-MVP in Avondale’s semifinal win. Avondale is just a different, and way better, team with Muhl on the floor. He can create for himself and his teammates and will free the floor for his teammates to go to work.

Muhl made his Avondale debut and earned a Player of the Game. He scored 15 points, grabbed 5 boards and dished out 4 assists and played some solid perimeter D in a solid team win. Muhl is a dynamic and explosive guard. He can really heat up from behind the arc, but can also play as a pure point guard. Muhl is a leader with the ball in his hands initiating the offense.

Muhl played with a ton of energy and intensity. He was all over the floor on both ends. His responsibility is to be the point guard for Hopson, and he knows how to fill this role. He is a nice scorer that can get to the rim. He showed a couple knockdown threes from deep. He is a fast player which made it hard for defenders to stay in front of him. This also allowed him to cut players off and change their direction as a defender. I like the toughness and energy Muhl showed.
