I like Pires’ game a lot. The 6-foot-2 guard is a menace on defense and really impressed with his ability to guard a variety of players; he can slide his feet and use his active hands against smaller guards on the perimeter but can also wall up and stay disciplined against bigger players on switches. Offensively, he has above-the-rim athleticism and a lot of strength on drives to the hoop. He also really understands how to find cutters on backdoors and threw a couple of nice no-look bounce passes. Pires should have a nice season at Marinapolis and will probably find a D3 fit after that.

Pires, a crafty wing from Marianapolis Prep, is a prospect on the Watch List in our latest update. A quality perimeter shooter with a quick release on his jumper, he does a nice job of elevating into his shot, allowing him to get it off over most defenders. He has good strength and a college ready frame, both of which he uses to his advantage as a driver. When he gets into the paint he has the ability to finish through contact, but also shows some creativity and the ability to get it done around the rim with either hand.

Pires is a strong-bodied guard who can score in a variety of ways. He can finish athletically at the rim with both hands and can also shoot it from the midrange and three. He did a good job defending some impressive on-ball creators, too. He should get a lot better playing at the prep level for the next couple seasons.
