Playing with RI Elite on the PUMA Pro16 circuit, Martinez has established himself as a productive scoring guard with a polished offensive skill set and a strong feel for the game. He knows how to play and consistently makes smart decisions within the flow of the offense. He is a reliable perimeter shooter who can knock down shots from beyond the arc and is equally capable of creating his own offense off the dribble. Martinez uses change of pace well, attacks gaps in the defense, and has the confidence to make plays in key moments. While he is a slightly better-than-average athlete, he compensates with skill, toughness, and basketball IQ. His ball handling and playmaking ability continue to improve, allowing him to take on more responsibility as both a scorer and facilitator.

Martinez has an impressive blend of size, strength, athleticism, and skill and was the RI Elite player I was most intrigued by this weekend (though there were many). The 6-foot-5 point-forward moves defenders consistently on drives to the rim, and he has long arms and good touch with both hands, so he can really excel as a paint threat against players of all sizes. He also has a nice handle and feel on the perimeter, especially when using on-ball screens and making spray-out passes to shooters (which he’s good at because of his combination of size and vision). Martinez will be at the Academy of Central Florida next year, a major prep basketball powerhouse where he should be able to hone his shooting ability and feel. Very high level prospect.

A move-in from New York City, Martinez is a smooth, polished scoring wing with a good feel for the game. He has positional size, is a solid three-point shooter, and can create his own offense off the bounce. A better than average athlete who plays with confidence, the junior is a talented perimeter scoring threat.
