One thing that simply can’t be taught is size, and Kalau brings that to the table in spades as an imposing two-way presence in the paint. The Congolese big man is a transfer from Andrews Osborne (OH) who’s made an instant impact as the man in the middle at Montour, following in the footsteps of current UT Martin freshman Ama Tening Sow. Averaging nearly 15 points per game, he thrives inside as an above-the-rim finisher from the dunker spots or as a roll man. Defensively, he poses a natural deterrent with his size and length as a rim-protector. Despite some struggles with injury, Kalau is being pursued by programs all across the scholarship spectrum.

Kalau impressed with his game on the block flinging in a few shots from the block. He had great timing on the defensive end swiping away several shots. Kalau did a nice job running the floor in transition. He has gotten a lot stronger as time goes on and is progressing as a prospect. Kalau made several trips to the foul line. He is a prospect who should see traction at the low to mid level and would also be great at the junior college level so he can continue to blossom with his development.

After beginning his high school career in PA at now-defunct Keystone Academy, Kalau took a detour to Andrews Osborne (OH) for the past couple years but is now back across the state line for a senior year at Montour. Maybe the most physically imposing frontcourt prospect in the state, the Congolese rim-runner has battled injury over the years but when at his best is able to make an impact with his natural tools while playing from rim to rim. He shows strong hands in traffic whether on the glass or catching dumpoffs, keeping the ball high and getting it up to the rim quickly to finish efficiently. While limited on the perimeter on both ends, Kalau brings a low-maintenance skillset that’s bound to draw D1 attention at his size provided he’s able to stay healthy through the winter.

Kalau’s size allows him to eat up space down low on both ends of the floor. He was able to score inside the paint and showcased a few post moves with his back to the basket. He is a mountain of a child with imposing size. His height allows him to be close to rim to collect rebounds. The biggest think with Loic is he needs to be consistent and needs to play with the same energy no matter who he is matched up against.

One of the tallest prospects in Ohio, Kalau has intriguing upside with his length, ability to protect the rim and finish at the basket. Still developing an offensive skillset to catch and finish against other players his size but Kalau has shown improvement when he’s been able to stay healthy and on the court. I like how aggressive Kalau is looking to dunk the basketball when he catches it in the paint. A name we’ll continue to monitor over the next few years.
