Sims, a senior wing out of Newington High School, recently passed the 1,000-point mark and is also closing in on 1,000-rebounds for his career. The 6’4″ wing is a standout on the gridiron and the physicality translates for him. He plays with an elite motor, uses his athleticism to his advantage in the open floor, and has a nose for the ball on the offensive glass. He’s capable of overpowering defenders around the rim, showing the ability to finish with either hand and to make plays through contact. He does a nice job of attacking the rim in transition, can hit jumpers in the mid-range, and also has the ability to make plays off the bounce from the perimeter, getting to the rim more often than not.

Sims, who already holds the single season rebounding record at Newington, stars on both the hardwood and the gridiron. A physical wing, Sims shines on the defensive end of the floor. Right now, he’s both a perimeter stopper and rebounding machine. On the ball, he’s physical, tough, and moves his feet well. Off the ball, he does a great job of jumping pass lanes, helping to protect the rim from the weakside, and owning his area of the floor for rebounds. On the offensive end of the floor, he does most of his scoring around the basket, proving to be a physical rim finisher. He can finish with either hand and is a threat to score as both a cutter and in isolation situations on the block. Right now, he profiles as a combo forward, but as his skill develops, he could make the move to a full time wing. Either way, he’s a prospect that should be on the radar of college coaches in the region come this winter.

Sims was playing up this weekend but you definitely can’t tell from his physique and face. He’s incredibly dense with a very strong lower body and a cerebral offensive game. He can burrow his way into the paint and then make strong, accurate kickout passes once the defense comes. Most notable, though, was Sims’ rebounding ability, especially on the offensive end. Nobody could box him out and he repeatedly won his team second chance opportunities. Definite D3 prospect as a versatile, positionless hooper.
