Expert Analysis

The future is now for Edmond Santa Fe, and a key part of the bright now is the athletic sophomore. At a recent exposure camp, Baba showed off improved handles. His handles are tighter, with subtle in and out moves to freeze defenders. He’s also a classic transition monster with his ability to grab boards and go. A promising sign that his motor is ticking up. But he doesn’t need a long runway to produce highlights. Even in the halfcourt he can assault the rim like he jumped off a trampoline. If Santa Fe is making a push for the Gold Ball come February and March, expect the development of the high upside guard to be a big reason why.

Baba is a quick twitch athlete, with outstanding leaping skills. Is already starting to play above the rim. Putback dunks and skying bocks are starting to become more frequent with him. Motor seems to be picking up, which is his path to a big impact while the rest of skillset develops. One of the higher upsides prospects in the class, and a prime candidate to be a riser as part of the new era for Edmond Santa Fe this winter.

One of the potential mega athletes of the class, Baba is an explosive athlete. Already plays above the rim, as he rises quickly and keeps elevating. There were bursts throughout his freshman season that indicate the game changing player he can become. It should come with maturity, but fully turning up his motor to match his unique athletic gifts will be crucial for unlocking his full potential. A spring and summer with a good AAU program, which plays quality competition like Southern Ties should be great for Baba’s growth. Which could make him look unrecognizable, in a good way next winter.

Has burst of activity that highlight the level of athleticism and potential he has. Quick twitch athlete, with an explosive first step and leaping ability. Active on the glass and already a lob threat. Still overall raw game, but the potential and the desire to improve appear to be there. Influence should continue to grow this season for a younger Wolves squad that needs players like Baba to step up. With expectations for a breakout sophomore campaign as he adds experience, skill and strength to his explosive potential.

Joshua Baba is an eye-catching athlete with great physical tools that he regularly puts on display on both ends of the floor. He plays with a very impressive motor and competes like he has something to prove. Baba stood out at Prep Hoops’ Freshmen Showcase with elite two-way versatility and fantastic touch within the paint and at the rim. His tools make him one of the better longterm prospects in all of Oklahoma, but could very easily start making his impact felt as early as this season. Baba also does a great job of playing at the top of zones on defense where he disrupts passing lanes with his long wingspan and can also apply pressure regardless of the size and speed of opposing ball-handlers.
