Expert Analysis

Kabugi had a solid summer, which should carry over into the winter. The 6’4 guard explodes off the floor for dunks and can also finish through contact. Kabugi uses his size to see over his defender and can knock down open jumpers from behind the arc. He fights for rebounds on both ends of the floor and has the athleticism to defend multiple positions on the floor. Kabugi is a lanky guard prospect who should make plays at both ends of the floor throughout the course of the season.

Another Springdale member on this list is Kabugi, who announced his transfer recently from New Jersey and his intentions to reclass to 2028. He catches your eye with his strong, filled out frame that he knows how to utilize when it comes to maintaining leverage around the rim or when he gets downhill on drives. The motor, athleticism and physicality all shined in the win over Magic Elite Select as Kabugi skied for rebounds at their peak amongst the bigs and ripped them down with authority. The plus side to Kabugi is he has the ability to start the fast break and with a head of steam, can force defenders to make business decision on whether or not to step in front and take charges. He made good decisions as a ball-mover in the half court and looks to be another guy for Springdale this winter who can contribute to the box score in a multitude of ways.

Now at The St. James Academy playing for Book Richardson in the EYBL Scholastic league, Kabugi adds size, motor, and versatility to the frontcourt rotation. He’s a guy who doesn’t understand what it means to be tired, or at least that’s how he plays. It seems like any activity on the glass, any lazy pass, or any 50/50 results in Kabugi being in the mix with a hand in things and more times than not, ending up with the possession. He showed off some intriguing tools offensively too both on and off the ball. His handle is good enough to, in times, be an initiator. Getting downhill and absorbing contact comes into play with his chiseled frame. He can mix it up and make jumpers off the bounce and can make defenders sprint out to closeout and utilize his bursty first step before attacking the rim.

A force on both offense and defense… Imposing (College 2G size Chilsed 190lb frame) size for a two-guard combined with his High IQ helps create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. Very quick and plays with tremendous intensity. He runs the court very well and plays both ends…He can handle the ball well enough to play on the ball if needed. Offensive tool box consist of scoring from anywhere on the floor.

Kabugi is a recent addition to the LCA lineup who is a long shot to win POY, but it would be a mistake not to mention this tremendous prospect here. Kabugi is an attack the rack style guard with a blazing quick first step and circus like handles. Those two assets enable Kabugi to get past the initial defenders and into the lane. Once he is in the paint, Kabugi’s explosive hops enable him to dunk on an opponent’s head. To be honest, Kabugi rarely settles for a lay-in, even if it means powering through contact for the slam. When his opponent’s wall of the lane against his dribble drives, Kabugi will stroke threes. Back in September Kabugi was a standout at the MADE Hoops East event. For the last two years Kabugi has been playing with the NBA Academy Africa squad. Kabugi recently posted a stat line of 8 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists against Atlantic Christian.
