Hector Marquez | Prep Hoops Scout
Apathjang had a stellar spring and he is set to be the best player coming back in 3A and it is much deserved. He has the skills to really take over and will be part of a title defense for JMCHS.

JJ became the first player in the class to make his commitment and it is well deserved. This kid was coming into the 9th grade as an athlete that could get to the rim with a shifty handle. Over the years he has added so much to his bag, including that coveted three-level scoring. He has played in events this June that have really made him standout and he is a player that could really continue to blossom this coming July heading into the school season. Then at the next level he will also have a chance to really make a name for himself right off the bat.

Apathjang is worth all the hype, displaying notable athleticism and skill to be a threat from anywhere on the floor. His quick first step granted him immediate driving lanes on quite a few occasions, although when paired with the various counters should help arrive, he was a malleable offensive option for Judge. His quickness and length at 6’3 allowed him to match up against any backcourt opponent thrown at him, one of steadiest names on both ends from this event.

JJ has matured over the past few years and he has really taken to that lead guard position. He can make a few quick moves and create separation for himself to get to the rim. He has the length to finish over those taller players coming over to help and he has teh athleticism to play above the rim as well. He is shooting the ball better that he ever has and there is still room to improve. Stay tuned because JJ looks locked in.

JJ got better as the season rolled on and he took a lot of pride in his game. He was one of those players that you could not stop in the ISO game as his quick first step and wiggle was just too much to handle. He was creating space and in that space he was finding scoring and assisting opportunities. His stock is starting to go up and this spring and Summer should be a very calculated time for him to work on his game and sharpen his skills.

JJ when on the flor is able to do so much so seeing him stay on the floor and not get into foul trouble was big for him as he was such an impactful player, especially at the top of the key when he is able to make a few moves and go quickly to the rim. JJ has improved his vision as he was finding player open in the perimeter and on cuts to the rim. He finishes through the contact that he gets and the contact he creates as well. He has a high ceiling.
